Self-Exploration Through Aesthetics

Self-exploration is a constant process. Keeping up with blogging on Tumblr has made me discover very intricate parts of my personality. I have been an avid Tumblr blogger since high school. I spent a lot of time on my blog and gained around 10,000 followers. But one day I realized that I just did not like the look of my blog, so I made a new one with a completely different look- one that was better suited to me. I have not logged into my old blog for almost a year now and to be honest, I don’t really remember what my aesthetic even was. It even bothers me to even think about my old blog because it just never matched up with my personality or style. I began my new blog as soon as I stopped updating my old one and it has evolved with me as I further explore my style and taste.

I go on Tumblr at least once a day. I usually take a break from homework and just scroll through Tumblr, looking for the next photo to reblog. I put on good music and attempt to make my blog as visually appealing as possible. Above are some of the photos that I have reblogged in the past. Tumblr, for me, is a constant visual mood board. It helps me gather inspiration, while also distressing me (and distracting me).

Updating my Tumblr blog has given me a lot of inspiration in otherwise uninspired times. It has helped me discover new art, fashion and music. I have only 497 followers on my new Tumblr blog, but honestly the follower count doesn’t matter. I really enjoy updating my blog’s look. My goal is to make the photos begin to complement one another. If you know me, you know I have a love for cohesive content (just look at my Instagram and you can see my obsession with cohesion). And my Tumblr is no different: it is truly my aesthetic.

Why I Started YouTube…

I binge watch YouTubers like Arden Rose,  TrueBeutie and Joellen Lu way too often than I should. But watching each of their videos really made me inspired to start making my own videos. I have always had a passion for filmography/photography and video editing, and a YouTube is the perfect chance to film and edit while also being able to talk about products, clothes and my life in general.

I have been talking about starting my own YouTube, and I have bounced this idea off of some of my closest friends for a really long time.. .probably annoying each of them a lot. But I finally decided to do it, with the help of my mom (a new camera was one of my birthday presents).

It was my 20th birthday almost a week ago, and I filmed a quick “Get Ready With Me” before my little birthday dinner my family surprised me with. I posted it two days ago and I have almost 200 views on it, which I did not expect at all. I was thinking more like 50 views for the whole week. So, it is safe to say I’m pretty excited.

It will be time consuming to film because I do have schoolwork, my job at the newspaper and I do write for my blog and MyTrendingStories, but I think it will be both rewarding and exciting to see where this will take me. I am hoping to get out a new video biweekly, if not weekly (we’ll see!)

Click here to go check out my video! No pressure though.

With love, from Santa Monica

Santa Monica is the place you go for a break from Los Angeles. If you get tired of the traffic, or get tired of the smog, or even get tired of the city. Santa Monica is the perfect little escape. It still technically counts as Los Angeles, but it has very few things in common with downtown LA. Like the good shopping and yummy restaurants.

I go to school about five miles from Santa Monica. Okay, so I know that does not seem far at all. But it honestly takes a solid 20 minutes to get there. You may be asking why. Well, because Los Angeles traffic is real. And it sucks. But 20 minutes is completely doable, in my opinion.

Over the weeks, I have been to Santa Monica a few times. Meaning, I have taken a lot of photos. A lot.

You can probably tell that I love palm trees. If you follow me on Instagram, it is obvious just how much I love palm trees. And Santa Monica has the prettiest palm trees. Actually, Beverly Hills might have the best palm trees. But Santa Monica is a very close second.

The 3rd St. Promenade is where all the shopping is in Santa Monica. Well, almost all of it. You have the Promenade, where brands like Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and Madewell are in a constant state of busy. Then one block up, you have downtown Santa Monica. I prefer this area. That sounds pretentious. I’m sorry. I prefer downtown Santa Monica only because it reminds me of San Francisco. The way the buildings look and how the storefronts switch from chic boutiques to foodie spots… It just really reminds me of home. Also there is Buffalo Exchange and Wasteland, which are two of my favorite thrifting spots.

One block down from the 3rd St. Promenade is the beach. The infamous Santa Monica Pier. I was recently walking around the boardwalk with my boyfriend’s family, and got a snap of the California Coast.

Santa Monica Beach (from the Pier)

I have never felt so lucky to live in Los Angeles than I do when looking at this photo. From the palisades off in the distance, to the warm sunny beach with that pretty water (by the way, it gets way prettier as you travel down towards Malibu. That water is beautiful). There are so many different parts of Los Angeles. You have the city, the beach, the suburbs, and the little downtowns in each area of town. It is so unique and special. It may be a giant hassle to go from place to place sometimes (most of the time), but I think that just adds to LA’s charm.
