’90s Ref Babe

’90s fashion is my thing. Actually, a lot of my style inspiration comes from my mom. My mom was a very stylish person in the ’90s. So stylish. There are countless photos of her in high waisted Levi’s, paired with a Ralph Lauren tank, and topped off with those iconic 90’s sunglasses. ’90s mom was so chic. I would see photos of her and automatically want to recreate her outfits. Plenty of the outfits I wear now are ’90s mom-esque.

Recently, ’90s style has become so popular. Affordable brands like Forever21, H&M, Old Navy, and Urban Outfitters have started to style their pieces completely ’90s chic.

I thrift a lot of my fashion essentials, to get a really authentic ’90s look, from my jeans to my knitted bodysuits. But there is one brand I go completely mad over. And that is Reformation. I have talked about this brand once before in a blog post, but I am going to talk about them again because I just love their stuff that much.

Manufactured in Los Angeles (yay), Reformation uses sustainable fabrics- and sustainable practices- to make every single one of their garments. Their impact on the environment is much smaller than brands like Forever21 or H&M. I like to buy thrifted fashion just as much as I like to buy new fashion, don’t get me wrong. I might even prefer to buy pre-loved items, new or old. But I love that Ref exists because it is so easy to incorporate their garments into my wardrobe, without it clashing with any of my vintage pieces!

Although their garments are a little on the expensive side, I really enjoy buying from them because it feels so good to know that something I own was made responsibly and fairly. My new Ref purchase came this week (Yes, I realize that I may have a Ref addiction, but we are just going to pretend I don’t).

I have had my eye on the Linnea dress for almost a month now. But every time I checked, my size was out of stock. I checked again about a week ago. I was in luck. I bought the Linnea dress right when I saw that my size was restocked. I would pair this dress with any type of shoe. With my vintage white leather mules from Naturalizer (pictured), a black chunky heel, or even my all-white Keds. Most of Reformation’s pieces can be dressed either up or down, and that is something I really look for in a piece. Reformation incorporates ’90s style into their garments. Their styles are new, but they give off that ’90s chic that I just love!

Summer of Silk

It is really important to me to have an individual style. One that is unique, but still simple and easily achieved. I have gone through many different versions of the same style, but I always come back to the same central style. I wouldn’t even know what to call it. One day during one of my aesthetic talks that my boyfriend lets me babble on for hours about, I came around to describe my style to him, and I stumbled on the descriptor “90s Parisian.” After a few giggles on both our parts, I decided like that was a very accurate name for it.

I have been into thrifting since I was really young. My mother has kind of passed that onto me over the years. I prefer to buy pre-loved items, with the exception of pieces from Reformation. But, I love incorporating vintage pieces into my ever-evolving style. Recently I have found some beautiful silk pieces while out thrifting around town. I have been obsessed with silk finds lately. I think silk pieces are so universal because you can either dress it up or down.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetIs it acceptable to wear a silk slip in public? Yes, if you ask me. I know one of the trends lately is to wear a tee or turtle neck underneath a silk slip to achieve a layering look. I, on the other hand, prefer to wear the slips without layering. I feel like it is more of a 90s chic rather than a modern street style. This outfit could be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. If paired with sneakers (I would pair it with my all-white Keds), it would work as the perfect day look. Paired with simple heels would be perfect for a dressier occasion.

Above, I styled two separate silk camisoles. The first is a black silk camisole featuring lace detailing. I paired it with my vintage 501 Levi’s shorts (that I cut and distressed!). This is a more casual everyday look, while the second outfit is less casual. I paired a vintage Neiman Marcus silk cream cami with a black corduroy mini skirt. Both outfits are something I would wear daily. I would wear both with my favorite vintage Ferragamo black leather mules.

My “90s Parisian” aesthetic really helps me exude my stylistic passions. Fashion has always been just another way to express myself, and after years of experimenting with different pieces, I have finally fully achieved a true style that feels very me.

A Visit to the City I Missed…

My mother grew up in San Francisco. My grandma, aunt/uncle, and cousins still live in San Francisco. Growing up, my mother always took us into the city for family visits, and all around shopping feats! I used to stay with my grandma for weeks at her vintage house on 41st avenue. As I got older, visits became more frequent because my eldest sister went to school- and lived- in San Francisco. She lived near Union Square (near all the shopping) for the first few years, then moved to the historic (and somewhat posh) neighborhood of Russian Hill.

Being away from the Bay Area, I really missed San Francisco. I have been itching to get back there since summer began. Just this week, I went with my best friend. Of course, we shopped. But honestly, I just wanted to take pictures.

One thing that I love the most about San Francisco is its unique history. Both my grandma and my mother have shared stories about San Francisco, and it is definitely a city that grows on you. Part of its charm is its different architectural styles. There are so many different style buildings that all come together to make San Francisco as eclectic as it is.

I’ve always told my mother that once I have established somewhat of a solid career path, I would love to own an apartment in San Francisco, either in the Marina District or Russian Hill. I have always loved San Francisco… Well, I just love cities in general. I have made it one of my little goals to live in the three cities I love the most: New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. So stay tuned for those adventures!

My Summer Staples

My fashion style is constantly evolving. Which I will admit that I have made awful style choices. But I have finally found a style that is very “me.”

I’m a Levis girl. Seriously. I love shopping for vintage Levis (maybe I’ll write a post about my summer thrifting!)
I think that pairing an understated simple top-perhaps a little minimalistic, with some old Levis is the ideal outfit for me.
Summer season is basically sandal season. I’ve had my eye on a pair of Steve Madden lace up suede sandals, similar to those pictured (but for much cheaper).

Thanks to Polypore, I was able to create a style and beauty inspiration board for all my readers. I created this classic minimalistic look (with a slight edge that makes it unique and cool). This outfit and beauty pairing is perfect for those hot days and a simple night out. My summer beauty products constantly change, but I also find my way back to clean nude, blush, and bronze tones.

Summer Ease

I did not plan to make a blog post today, and I did not fully prepare for my photo to be taken (I air dried my hair and put on light makeup). The end result was quick outfit I put together today, featuring a cotton dress from Urban Outfitters and lace up sandals from Target. I also paired it with a vintage black leather Coach cross over bag (not pictured today), which I’m sure will be featured in another post soon.

I bought this dress from Urban Outfitters last year. It came in two colors, black and cream (pictured) and I loved the style so much that I bought both! The dress is extremely flattering, and can be dressed up or dressed down. For this outfit, I dressed it down since it was just a casual day.

The sandals are from Target (similar here). Target has some really cute shoes, and for a good price. I often purchase shoes from Target because they are so comfortable and such good quality! These lace up sandals are perfectly on trend for the summer, and there are many available colors and styles to choose from!
